Jeep lovers are known to exhibit cult-like behaviour. They even have their own special wave. Everyone else hates them. We know that, because we’ve experienced it first hand, while testing the 2024 Wrangler Overland.
It’s an impressive blend of rugged capability and refined comfort, making it a standout in the off-road vehicle category. The first thing you’ll notice is its iconic design, which remains true to the Wrangler’s roots, while incorporating modern touches.
Not all of them are perfect though, but more on that in a moment. Under the hood is a new and impressively powerful 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 200kW of get up and go and 400Nm of torque.
Its exceptional off-road prowess carries forward in this fresh model, and is complemented by advanced four-wheel drive systems and a range of terrain-specific driving modes, ensuring you can conquer any landscape with confidence.

Jeep claims 9.2-litres/100km from this beast’s 81-litre fuel tank, but the best we could manage was 13.2-litres. Not completely ugly but not brilliant either. Excelling both on and off road, it’s a combination of charm, modernity and advanced technology.
Inside, the Wrangler Overland boasts an upgraded interior too. The seats are upholstered in high-quality materials and offer excellent support, making long journeys comfortable. The latest 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system runs Uconnect 5.
Featuring a user-friendly touchscreen interface, smartphone integration, and premium audio options, the system ensures you stay connected and entertained wherever you go. The sound setup in the Jeep is phenomenal, kitted out with Alpine speakers.
There’s an abundance of storage too, with 987-litres of boot space in its standard 4-door 5-seat configuration. Lay the second row flat, and that grows to 2050-litres. Safety hasn’t been overlooked either.

You’ll find a suite of advanced driver assistance functions on board, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and forward-collision warning. It also has one of the best reverse camera’s we’ve seen in ages, complete with dynamic parking lines.
If there’s a place where the Jeep falls down, it’s in the doors. In older Jeeps, the hinges would allow them to swing wide open, but that’s no longer possible. Now they open at a variety of angles, and can be held at each point.
While that sounds great, it doesn’t work in practicality. That’s partly because you almost have to pry them open and they’ll literally fly shut. It’s fair to say we had a few injures in our time with the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Overland.
That aside, the one-touch convertible roof, which allows you to enjoy the Jeep to its fullest, or close it when it’s too noisy, or the weather shifts is a standout feature. The downside is the road noise it lets into the cabin. The former definitely outweighs the latter though.

With a load of customisation options, and some cool colour choices, including Bright White, Black (PX8), Granite Crystal, Sarge Green, Firecracker Red, Hydro Blue, Silver Zynith, High Velocity, Earl and Anvil.
Some of those don’t pair with the Sky Roof option on our tester though, just so you know. The Overland variant also features unique badging, upscale interior finishes, and enhanced exterior lighting, distinguishing it from other models in the Wrangler line-up.
Now the part that’s the toughest to swallow, and it’s the price. Tested here in Firecracker Red, the Jeep is $93,317 drive away. That’s wild. It does come with a 5-year warranty, 5-years capped price servicing and lifetime roadside assist though.
You are joining that cult-like community if you by one though, becoming part of a family of enthusiasts who share a love for exploration and the outdoors. Jeep events, off-road meetups, and a plethora of online forums and clubs are all part of that.

It’s a lifestyle choice that lets you traverse rocky trails, cruise through urban jungles, or simply enjoying a scenic drive – you just have to pay for the privilege. You can find out more by visiting the Jeep Australia website, or talking to your local dealership.
