2024 Haval H6GT Ultra (car review)

Drawing what can only be described as inspiration from the Lamborghini Urus, the 2024 Haval H6GT Ultra certainly catches the eye. Priced at $42,990 drive away, the Chinese car maker has certainly given it a red-hot crack in giving us value for money.

The exterior design is both sleek and commanding, with bold lines and a striking front grille that makes a statement on the road. LED headlights and tail lights add a touch of sophistication, while the aerodynamic profile enhances fuel efficiency.

While we can’t ignore the fact that the rear end screams boujee on a budget, and has that remarkable resemblance we mentioned earlier (you can’t unsee it), we do love it. There’s plenty to like about the car, and a little not to.

Blending cutting-edge technology with luxurious comfort and robust performance – well sort of – the H6GT Ultra features a plush, well-appointed interior that greets you with an array of high-quality materials.

The cabin offers ample room for both passengers and cargo (390-litres of boot space), making it ideal for families and adventurers too. You’ll also find top tether and ISOFIX anchor points for the munchkins, and plenty of room in the back for a couple of car seats.

Tech enthusiasts will appreciate the suite of modern amenities, with an infotainment system that’s intuitive and user-friendly, featuring a large touchscreen where you can control the heated and vented seats, air-conditioning and sound.

The latter comes from a premium audio setup that’ll also hook up to wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It’s clunky to connect though. Performance-wise, the H6GT Ultra really tries to be a head turner, which is fine, given there is plenty of time to catch a glimpse of it.

Reaction times are less than desirable, but its redeems itself in the fact that once the turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine spools up, it delivers a smooth yet powerful ride, with impressive handling to boot. It has a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Whether you’re navigating city streets or tackling winding country roads, the H6GT Ultra maintains a composed and confident demeanour. The all-wheel drive system enhances traction and stability, ensuring you can conquer various terrains with ease.

Packed with style, it’s available in Crayon Grey, Burgundy Red, Atlantis Blue, Golden Black, Sapphire Blue and Hamilton White (as tested). Scoring a 5-star ANCAP safety rating, the Haval comes with a 7-year unlimited kilometre warranty.

You also get 5-years roadside assist and 5-years capped price serving, and in this economy, that’s sexy. All-in-all, the 2024 Haval H6GT Ultra is a standout SUV in the affordability stakes, bringing style, performance and tech along for the ride.

It’s a vehicle that delivers on all fronts, and if you’re in the market for a versatile, SUV that doesn’t compromise on style or comfort, it should definitely be on your shopping list. You can find out more by visiting the GWM Haval website or talking to your local dealership.
