SET to launch in Australia in the third quarter of 2018, the Volkswagen Amarok Ultimate will deliver a whopping 200kW of power in over-boost mode, and some 580Nm of torque, making it the most powerful version of the class leading ute to date.
To give you some comparison, the current EU5 V6 engine offered in the Amarok produces a hefty 180kW on over-boost, and 550Nm of torque, with the new EU6 engine to first be fitted in the next generation Ultimate edition.
The new model, when it lands, will come with a slight price rise over the current model, with Volkswagen Australia looking to expand the range with this new high-performance V6 offering at a later stage.
Australia remains the biggest export market in the world for the go-anywhere ute, and Volkswagen Group Australia Director of Commercial Vehicles, Carlos Santos is relishing the opportunity to offer Australian customers an even more powerful Amarok.
“As we’ve promised before, we have no intention of giving up the mantle of the most powerful ute in its class and are looking to offer the upgraded 200kW Amarok V6 later in the year,” he said.
“Our current V6 Amarok with 180kW on over-boost is no lightweight; proven by the 1:57 and 2:57 laps around Eastern Creek and Mount Panorama set in our apprentice built race car running a standard drive line.”
The new model should give those times a serious run for their money if VW Australia lets their apprentices lose with the new version. Pricing and specifications for the upcoming Amarok V6 Ultimate will be available closer to launch.
